Yesterday, excitedly running towards our own smallness, in my favorite fall region of the state. . . During the last week and a half of chasing @francois_dhaene around the Cascades, he at some point made a comment along the lines of, "Everyone says that there aren't big mountains in Washington, but these are pretty big!" - not sure who he heard that from but it sure wasn't @ryanthrower who exclaimed yesterday, "This is so epic, I feel so small" while running this trail. . . @sarahburley10 and I are leaving the state until November on Wednesday, but the last two weeks of time spent appreciating our backyard mountain range will keep me looking forward to our return.

A Sunday consisting of bushwhacking, glacier running, and one of my favorite views in Washington is arguably not a bad Sunday. * Ben and I met last year while I was trying to run up and click my heels on the peak just out of frame to the left (Sherman) during the @mountbakerultra. So it feels appropriate that almost exactly a year later we took a spontaneous stroll up the Easton, shared a summit beverage, and hustled out to lunch waiting for us a few forest roads away. Thankful for friends like Ben who are into 2:00am starts and moving quickly through the mountains.

After a few weeks of desert trails, I returned to Washington quickly bombarded by thoughts of disappearing ridgelines and mountain conversations; conversations with strangers, with friends, with ridgelines. Example above.

50 years ago today this group of towering peaks and massive glaciers hiding away in the northern half of Washington became an official National Park. I'm a huge fan. * * Two years ago yesterday, @afrankee and I bailed off a climb in the park because it started snowing, yet we somehow still managed to get this view from a NCNP classic.
